Sarah Winchester (born Sarah Lockwood Pardee) built the Winchester House following the deaths of her infant daughter, father-in-law, and husband.

William Wirt Winchester married Sarah. After his death, his wife inherited his family fortune and income from the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, of which William was the treasurer.

The outer facade of the house includes a "door to nowhere" which opens to open air on the 2nd story.

Here is one is one of the house's 6 kitchens, with an unreachable door to the floor above.

Sarah's bedroom is one of the most "normal" rooms in the entire house, though it is still unusually large for what was typical at the time.

There are several staircases that "lead to nowhere." This one wraps around the outside of a small drawing room, and into the ceiling (as seen through the mirror).

Sarah's arthritis made movement difficult, so she designed the "easy riser" staircase. Each step is only 2" tall, so that Sarah did not have to lift her feet too far.

Sarah's favorite conservatory had paneled floors that lifted to reveal an aluminum lining to allow water to drain away to the corner of the room.

Sarah's "seance room" had this false cupboard, who's back wall was actually a door to the next room.

Sarah's Grand Ballroom was a massive nod to the Aesthetic movement. The hand-carved wooden details in this room alone are innumerable. On the right side of the large fireplace, you can see the door that protected her safe.

Behind the beautifully-carved wooden door, is a steel door, which protects the safe. Inside the safe itself, there were several more doors and locks to reach the inside.

Released on February 2, 2018. Starring Helen Mirren.
